What Week of Ultrasound Is Best for a 3D Baby Sculpture?

The single most common question we hear at our Toronto studio: which ultrasound should I send you? The short answer: a 3D/5D scan taken between weeks 24 and 34.

Why weeks 24 to 34?

Before week 24, your baby’s facial fat pads have not developed yet, so even a perfect scan shows features that are still forming. After week 34, babies sit lower and often press their face against the uterine wall or hide behind hands and feet, which blocks the sonographer’s view. Between those two points is the sweet spot: developed cheeks, visible lips and nose, and enough room to capture a clear profile.

What files do we need?

Just the JPEG images your clinic gives you. No special exports, no medical files. Two to five images from slightly different angles help our artists the most.

What if I only have a 2D ultrasound?

We can still create a beautiful keepsake, and we are honest about what that means: a 2D scan gives us a silhouette and proportions, so the sculpture becomes our artists’ loving interpretation guided by your scan rather than an exact replica. We tell you exactly what your images allow before you pay a dollar.

Not sure about your scan?

Send it to us through the contact page. We read it first, free, and give you a straight answer.
